JEMPOL: Police have crippled a Bitcoin mining syndicate that was stealing electricity to run its operations, seizing 190 machines worth some RM380,000 in Bahau.
Jempol OCPD Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the machines and other equipment were seized during raids at five business premises here on Saturday (April 10) night.
“This is our biggest success against such activities in the district.
“We believe the premises had been operating for two to 12 months and caused an estimated RM216,500 in losses to Tenaga Nasional (TNB) in power theft,” he told reporters.
No arrests were made in the raid conducted jointly with TNB.
He said such syndicates would typically operate at upper floors to avoid detection.
“We will also investigate the premises owners for links with their tenants.
“Property owners should make a report if they feel their premises are being used for illegal activities,” he said.
The cases are being probed under Section 379 and 427 of the Penal Code for electricity theft and causing mischief to TNB property.
