Fast-growing Union Home Mortgage Corp. of Strongsville has a new venue for building its brand: as the new title sponsor for the Gasparilla Bowl, a college football bowl game played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
Bowl officials on Tuesday, Oct. 20, announced that beginning this year, the bowl will be known as the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl. ESPN Events, a division of ESPN that owns and operates the bowl game, said in a news release that the “multiyear title sponsorship” with Union Home Mortgage was brokered by Denver-based Impression Sports & Entertainment. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The bowl game is played in December, though a specific date for this year’s game has not yet been announced. The bowl has tie-ins with several conferences, including the Cleveland-based Mid-American Conference, and could feature teams from the MAC, the SEC, ACC, AAC, Big 12, Conference USA, Mountain West or Pac-12, as well as Army or Brigham Young University.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that the bowl “has had multiple names and sponsors” since its inception in 2008 — the magicJack Bowl, the St. Petersburg Bowl presented by Beef ‘O’ Brady’s, the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl, the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl, the St. Petersburg Bowl and, most recently, the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl.
Bill Cosgrove, president and CEO of Union Home Mortgage, said in a statement that the Gasparilla Bowl organization is “aligned with our own values,” adding, “We have found a dedicated partner committed to the same level of service and engagement as our partners around the country.”
The bowl game’s executive director, Scott Glaser, said in a statement, “We are excited to begin this journey with Union Home Mortgage as our two organizations have a very similar approach to how we operate. Leadership at Union Home Mortgage made it very clear that they always strive to create a culture that demonstrates mutual respect for everyone along with a deep desire to be world-class. This is no different than how we attack every day at our bowl.”
Union Home Mortgage has more than 150 branches nationwide. In July, it announced an expansion of its corporate headquarters in Strongsville, adding a third building to its campus and bringing its total footprint to more than 120,000 square feet. The company also committed to the creation of 450 jobs in mortgage banking, technology, marketing and other areas. The company has about 1,400 employees.
